ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Martin Luther King Boulevard in Albuquerque is about to get much more bike friendly. The city is re-striping and reducing the size of the traffic lanes to allow more room for bicyclists.
They’re also adding a larger buffer between the cars and riders and the striping is now a bright green to increase visibility for drivers.
There have been a number of serious crashes involving bicycles and cars on MLK, especially near Broadway where many use the road to get to downtown.
And it’s not all about safety; the city will also be installing more bike boxes through the corridor to encourage more use by bicyclists.
The project will cost about $1.5 million and is being paid for through go bonds.
