SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Crews now believe a series of fires over the weekend in San Juan County were intentionally set.
A total of four brush fires broke out on the west side of San Juan County, according to officials on Sunday.
The largest of the brush fires, known as Motor Pool Command, is currently burning near mile marker 25 on U.S. 64. The blaze has charred approximately 100 acres and is not currently threatening any structures.
A smaller fire, known as 10 Mile Command, has burned about 30 acres near mile marker 10 of Highway 36.
At last check, fire officials say crews are mopping up the larger fires. The two smaller fires are already contained.
Investigators say there’s evidence to indicate they were intentionally set, but they won’t say if a suspect has been identified.
