Popular New Mexico restaurant expanding thanks to social media

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Social media is once again playing a big role in the reason a New Mexico favorite is crossing state lines.

Blake’s Lotaburger executives found out through social media that New Mexicans aren’t the only ones craving a Blake’s Lotaburger with green chile and cheese.

With already 75 locations in New Mexico and three in Texas, the popular burger joint is expanding again — this time to Tucson, Arizona.

The first Blake’s Lotaburger opened in 1952, and while the burger is still the same, there’s been some big changes along the way. Those changes include how Blake’s Lotaburger representatives decide where to expand.

Representatives say they now monitor social media very closely. What they noticed is that people in Tucson, Arizona were asking for a Blake’s Lotaburger more than anywhere else.

“There are a lot of people in Tuscon that have visited Albuquerque or have gone through New Mexico. You can’t go through New Mexico without seeing a Blake’s Lotaburger or stopping at a Blake’s Lotaburger,” said Shannon Curlee, Director of Field Management.

Two new locations will soon open up in Tucson. The first location will open April 1 near the University of Arizona. The second should be up and running by the summer.

Blake’s representative says they are open to adding more restaurants, but they don’t know where just yet.
