Man found guilty in killing of Taos woman

TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who was on trial for killing a Taos woman has been found guilty.

According to the Taos News, 51-year-old Ivan Cales was convicted in the murder of 33-year-old Roxanne Houston. Her body was found in a shallow grave in the Two Peaks area Christmas Day, 2014. She was last seen six months before that.

Prosecutors had argued Cales, who is a drifter, killed Houston because he thought she was a witch who cast a spell on him.

Cales was found guilty of first degree murder and tampering with evidence. He’ll be sentenced at a later date.
