FBI releases video from casino shooting that injured officer

Suspect still on the loose

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – One man is dead and a police officer was shot at a busy casino early Thursday morning. Now, the FBI is asking for the public’s help finding the second suspect involved in that shooting.

Investigators said a Laguna Pueblo Police officer was investigating a stolen car when the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m.

While people inside were gambling into the night, officer Peter Tanzilli, with Laguna Pueblo Police, pulled into the Route 66 Casino parking lot to investigate a reported stolen vehicle.

“We didn’t know if maybe there was a fire something or if there was just maybe somebody trying to rob the place, or what was going on,” said Hunter Smith, a casino guest from out of town.

Smith, along with other Casino guests saw the aftermath.

Video released from the FBI shows a silver Lexus drive up to the casino. Tanzilli, 37, went to confront the two occupants of the Lexus.

There’s no sound in the police video but investigators said Tanzilli was shot.Route 66 Casino shooting suspects

One of the male suspects was then shot and killed.

The FBI is still looking for a second suspect. He’s seen on lapel video wearing black shorts with a white stripe, a black jacket with white trim, and black shoes. He ran away from the scene.

Tanzilli, a five year veteran with Laguna Pueblo Police, is also a United States Air Force veteran who moved to New Mexico from Florida.

Officer Tanzilli is recovering at the University of New Mexico Hospital.

“They’re here to serve and protect us, and thank God he was here, hope he does a lot better,” said Smith. “And the guy that was shot, I hope he’s in a better place and he pays for his actions.”
