ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – John Dodson is the next man up out of the Jackson and Winkeljohn MMA Academy.
He has his mind on his fight and also on his garden. What people may not know about the UFC fighter is that he loves gardening for a hobby and he is very serious about.
“I have family, garden, fighting in that exact order. I don’t care what people say that my fighting should be first but, no. Family first and then my garden second,” said Dodson.
“I want to make sure I got my own fresh veggies like peas, spinach, cucumbers, strawberries. I am looking for some pine berries,” said Dodson. “If you don’t know what that is google it.”
He calls it a hobby but Dodson has solid reasons for being a man of the garden.
“It gets my mind off all the craziness out here,” said Dodson. “Like my whole purpose of fighting is to make sure it’s all nothing but a beautiful destruction. I want to make sure I create some other stuff of beauty by bringing life into the world.”
The man, affectionately known as the magician, will battle Manny Gamburyan at UFC on Fox 19 in Tampa, Florida on April 16.
Dodson is moving up from 125 pounds to 135 pounds to face his first opponent in his return to bantamweight. Gamburyan is moving down from 155 pounds.
Dodson said the drastic difference in weight does not bother him. He believes he will serve up a knockout in Tampa.
Dodson has a 18-7 record.
