A cool Thursday afternoon is ahead for New Mexico with little or no wind! But the wind isn’t going to stay away for long!
After a sunny, mild Thursday another storm system is going to start passing to our north on Friday. This will crank up the wind as it approaches the region on Friday afternoon. The wind won’t be nearly as strong as you remember it being earlier this week, but it will crank up with wind gusts of 40+ mph especially along the Central Mountain Chain and into the Eastern Plains. Fire Weather Watches are up for parts of eastern New Mexico due to the strong wind and dry conditions. So it is going to be another day that you cannot do any outdoor burning.
The wind will stay elevated as we head into Saturday thanks to a cold front that will knock temperatures back below average. This cold front could also trigger some rain/snow across parts of northern New Mexico on Saturday. It won’t be a lot of moisture but we will take what we can get after a very dry two month stretch.
Easter Sunday is looking sunny, dry and less wind!
