LAS VEGAS, NM (KRQE) – A water pipeline problem led to about half of residents in Las Vegas losing water service for part of Sunday.

Ken Garcia, the city’s utilities director, tells KRQE News 13 that a contractor digging near Hot Springs Boulevard in the northern New Mexico town broke one of the lines.

While crews were trying to isolate the problem, Garcia says many people were left without water.

Garcia says crews are working to install additional valves late into the evening to solve the problem, but most people who were affected should have their water back.

If anyone is still without water, they’re asked to call the City of Las Vegas at (505) 429-1227. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
