ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque Public Schools says school board President Dr. David Peercy is recovering from a heart attack.

APS says Dr. Peercy suffered from a heart attack Thursday while playing hand ball at the Highpoint Sports and Wellness gym. Gym staff members were able to revive Dr. Peercy by using a defibrillator.

Dr. Peercy was then transported to a hospital where he underwent triple bypass surgery.

APS says Dr. Peercy is expected to be released from the hospital by Sunday and he hopes to return to board meetings by March 16. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
