#1 Onate Falls to #4 Carlsbad in the Semifinals

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Top seeded Onate was coming off a big 65-37 win over Hobbs in the 2016 State Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals, but they go on to lose to #4 Carlsbad in OT 27-25.

It was a very slow paced game, this was attributed to Onate holding the ball and running the clock. They held the ball for six minutes straight in the third quarter.

That strategy did not work in their favor in the end though, as the Cavemen pull out the upset in overtime.

Carlsbad now moves on to play the winner of #2 Cleveland and #11 Rio Rancho in the 6A State Championship game on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Wise Pies Arena AKA The Pit.
