Roswell man dies in single-vehicle crash near Artesia

ARTESIA, N.M. (AP) – New Mexico State Police say a Roswell man has died and another was hurt when their vehicle overturned on a freeway.

Authorities say the crash happened around 1:45 a.m. Saturday just north of Artesia on U.S. 285.

According to police, 31-year-old Jesus Chavez-Nunez was driving northbound when he lost control of the car for an unknown reason.

The vehicle crossed the median and overturned.

Police say Chavez-Nunez was not wearing his seatbelt and he was thrown from the car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, 31-year-old Enrique Payan-Rubio, was transported to a hospital where he was treated and released.
