Descanso in South Valley scaled down

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A massive descanso in the South Valley has been scaled down.

Last summer KRQE News 13 showed just how huge the memorial along Coors near Rio Bravo was. The descanso included the flags of New Mexico, Mexico and the United States. It’s in memory of a suspected wrong way drunk driver.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation decided it posed a danger and needed to be changed. When KRQE checked on Monday, the flags were gone and there were orange cones surrounding it.

No word if this is the Department of Transportation’s final solution. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
