ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Just like great athletes taking their final bow, Cooper Henderson has decided to leave his head coaching job at Artesia on top.
The top bulldog finished 2015 winning a 14th state title for the school that has 29 total. Henderson was also named National Coach of the Year and our very own New Mexico Football Friday Coach of the Year in Class 5A.
Henderson will stay at Artesia and continue to serve as athletic director.
He said the time was right to give up his coaching job.
“Feel like a transition in the program, as far as a head football coach, is the right time,” said Henderson. “I am looking forward to continuing to be the athletic director at Artesia High School as well as helping any way I can to make that program continue to be successful.”
Henderson has been head coach at Artesia since 1989.
