ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE)- The Lobos are now 9-7 in conference play and riding a 3 game losing streak as they lost to Fresno State 92-82, and are now in 5th place in the conference.
“I think we all have moments when we are not bought in. I call myself the biggest culprit. Defensively and offensively we have lapses as a team. I think we all want to win, we all know what to do, we just have to consistently do it for 40 minutes”, said UNM Guard Elijah Brown.
Lack of consistency has been the topic of discussion for this year’s team, and that has been seen in the Lobos last 3 losses. The Lobos gave up a combined 147 points in the 2nd halves of their last three losses. The Lobos showed signs of promise early in the game with Fresno State on Saturday, but really struggled in the 2nd half. UNM had 18 turnovers and that lead to 24 Bulldog points.
Brown went off in the Lobo loss getting a double-double with a whopping 41 points, 11 boards, and 6 assists. Tim Williams also put up 18 points for UNM, but the Bulldogs had 4 players score in the double digits. Another lack luster showing from the Lobos on defense, as Fresno’s Marvelle Harris put up 32 points and Julien Lewis had 21.
“They are going to be able to score points, but are they going to be able to stop anybody? That’s my battle with them. You know it’s teaching them that they have to guard and they have to do things as a team. I think the biggest thing is our team defense I don’t think we have enough guys on the same page team defensively”, said UNM Head Coach Craig Neal.
The Lobos now only have two more games left on their schedule. They start with San Diego State at home on Tuesday. Tip off from Wise Pies Arena AKA the Pit will be 7:30 pm.
