PECOS, N.M. (KRQE) – A homeowner’s association is going after an electric co-op for the destructive Tres Lagunas fire in the Pecos.

The 2013 fire burned more than 10,000 acres after a tree fell on a powerline. Now, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican, the Tres Lagunas Homeowners Association accuses the Mora-San Miguel Electric Co-op of negligence saying it failed to maintain the utility easement.

Two ranches are also suing saying the fire harmed their business.

A similar suit over the Las Conchas fire was successful. In that case the Jemez Co-op and Tri State Generation were found mostly liable for the fire. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
