ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A man who police say stole a statue from a New Mexico museum and sold it for scrap is out of jail less than 24 hours after his arrest.

Silva was booked into MDC on Wednesday afternoon after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Albuquerque police say he stole “Sparky” the dog from the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History earlier this month.

He then sold it to a recycling company in the South Valley for $50. The company returned the $12,000 statue to APD and gave them Silva’s information.

Sparky was returned to the museum last week.

Silva is charged with fraud and receiving stolen property. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
