Sandoval County: SandRidge Energy pulls application to drill

RIO RANCHO (KRQE) – According to a spokesperson for Sandoval County, SandRidge Energy has pulled its application to drill for oil near Rio Rancho.

Last week, Sandoval County commissioners were scheduled to vote on whether to give the Oklahoma-based company a special permit to drill an exploratory well in New Mexico.

Concerned citizens packed the meeting, and asked officials to deny the permit. There’s been growing concern about the financially troubled company setting up a drilling site near a residential area.

County commissioners did not vote on the issue, but instead sent it back to the county’s planning and zoning department.

Tuesday afternoon, SandRidge sent a letter to Sandoval County officials saying the company is withdrawing its application to drill altogether.
