Albuquerque firefighters hope new service road will improve response time

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A few minutes could be the difference between life and death.

That’s why Bernalillo County Firefighters are hoping a new service road can help them cut down on their response time.

Right now, firefighters at the station near Paseo Del Norte and Tramway say they can’t get onto Paseo Del Norte quick enough. But that’s about to change.

“Time is of the essence. While it may seem a short amount of time, in an emergency those short seconds make a difference,” said Bernalillo County Fire Department Chief Christopher Celaya.

The New Mexico State Legislature approved $275,000 for a new service road. Construction for the project is supposed to begin later this week. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
