Jury convicts Albuquerque man for murdering his girlfriend while high

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A jury convicted a man on second degree murder charges for killing his girlfriend.

Jeremiah Gurule was high on meth when he stabbed 22-year-old Elizabeth Brito in April 2010.

Prosecutors say Brito called police saying she was bleeding and needed help. She later died.

Gurule’s attorneys tried to argue that he was mentally incompetent, but a jury found him guilty.

He now faces 18 years in prison.
