Drunk drivers honored for making a change

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE)– Drunk drivers were honored for turning their lives around during a ceremony at Metro Court on Wednesday.

Drug and alcohol offenders graduated from DWI Recovery Court. The program aims to rehabilitate offenders without sending them to jail.

Judge Edward Benavidez says the program works and that only 5 percent of graduates become repeat offenders.

The program has had more than 3,000 graduates in the last 13 years.
