ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) On Wednesday, a group of teachers spoke out against Albuquerque Public Schools’ new bell schedule during a board meeting.

This school year the district implemented its changes for thousands of Albuquerque students.

Some days students have seven shorter classes, other days fewer with longer classes and an early dismissal on Thursdays.

Eldorado High School teacher Sean Thomas says kids aren’t learning. “I honestly think students are overworked, and then as a result teachers are having a difficult time responding to their needs, because they’re overwhelmed and that makes us over worked,” said Thomas.

The district says the schedule was designed so that each teacher is teaching an additional class, which saves the district millions. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
