Hundreds receive free tickets to see the Pope in Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) –  Many folks from Albuquerque will soon get to see the Pope. “I believe that’s the closest we’re probably going to get to him,” said Chris Candelaria.

It was a pleasant surprise when the Archdiocese of Santa Fe got 500 tickets to give away to people who wanted to see Pope Francis speak in Mexico.

“When they received the news they were going to have some here, it was wonderful because many people were not able to get tickets with their family members in Juarez or El Paso,” said Rocio Gonzalez, director of Hispanic Ministry.

Gonzalez says when word spread, people showed up bright and early. “People were here before 6 o’clock this morning and we started distributing at 9 o’clock,” said Gonzalez.

The group included people like Mary Chavez and Chris Candelaria who were determined to get their hands on these tickets. “It’s just, we got to go, we got to go, we just got to put everything to the side and just get out there,” said Candelaria.

Now that they have them, they’re speechless. “There’s no words to describe that, just knowing we’re next to somebody so close to God is amazing,” said Chavez.

For some, this is a dream come true that was made possible by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.

“I’m very emotional, I’m very touched, very blessed that the Archdiocese is doing this for the people, and it just blesses me,” said Chavez.
