Four families evacuated after late night Albuquerque apartment fire

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Four families woke up in hotel rooms this morning after a fire in southeast Albuquerque Thursday night.

Albuquerque firefighters are working to figure out what sparked an overnight blaze at the El Pueblo Apartments on near Wilson Middle School. Firefighters say the fire broke out just after midnight.

When firefighters got there, they say they saw flames coming from a second story apartment window. They made a quick attack and got the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

Residents evacuated themselves, but the apartment’s management was able to get the four families hotel rooms.

One resident was taken the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

The cause is still under investigation. No news yet on when the families might be able to return home. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
