ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The 2-year-old girl who became the focus of an amber alert and was badly injured when she was thrown from her father’s car is doing much better.

Friday may be her last day in the hospital.

Police say Denise Tirado was taken by her father in Albuquerque at gunpoint Tuesday.

Officers caught up with him in southern Colorado, leading to a car chase that ended when he lost control and rolled the vehicle. Denise was thrown from the car.

Her mother tells KRQE News 13 the girl is now able to talk and eat.

The toddler may leave the hospital Friday or Saturday.

The father, 19-year-old Ramiro Tirado, will be sent back to New Mexico once he gets out of the hospital. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
