Albuquerque kids present valentines to veterans

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It’s not even Valentine’s Day and already some Albuquerque third graders are making hearts swell.

Love is in the air at the New Mexico Veteran’s Memorial.

That’s where we witnessed the Valentine’s Day exchange between third graders at North Valley Academy Charter School and New Mexico Veterans.

The students cut, glued and sprinkled until their homemade cards were complete. Veterans of all generations got to take part.

“It was awesome. It’s cool to see these kinds of things going on. My valentine says, ‘Thank you for being brave, and also thank you for serving in the Army,’” said Ryan Hill, U.S. Air Force.

Another veteran told us the first valentine he received from school kids was back in 1970 and he’s never forgotten it.

About 60 third graders made the cards. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
