SANTA FE (KRQE) – Sheriff’s deputies have seized records from the Archdiocese of Santa Fe as part of their case against a school art teacher accused of molesting students.
Aaron Chavez is charged with five counts of criminal sexual contact for allegedly touching girls during class at Santo Nino Catholic School.
Chavez was first arrested last month after one girl came forward, but then other victims began coming forward. The other victims say they had reported incidents years earlier, but state police and the archdiocese opted not to move forward with charges.
State police are conducting an internal investigation. The archdiocese has not commented, only saying that Chavez is on leave.
Investigators have now served a search warrant on the archdiocese offices in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Items seized include student files, a laptop and the teacher’s personnel files.
KRQE News 13 checked today, and Chavez has bonded out of jail.
