Astronaut with New Mexico ties passes away

ARTESIA, N.M. (KRQE) – The man known as “Artesia’s Astronaut” passed away on Thursday.

Edgar Mitchell was part of the Apollo 14 crew which landed on the moon on February 5th, 1971.

Mitchell and another astronaut performed two successful moon walks.

He graduated from Artesia High in 1948 and the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1952. He later joined the navy.

Mitchell claimed the alleged Roswell UFO crash was real and that aliens have contacted humans several times. He said that the government was hiding the truth.

Mitchell was 85.
