New Mexico man among those sickened in salmonella outbreak

OTERO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – An Otero county man is among those sickened in a salmonella outbreak possibly linked to a powdered supplement.

The company Garden of Life has recalled its raw meal organic shake and meal products after learning 11 people in 9 states have been sickened. That includes a 75-year-old New Mexico man.

The powdered supplements come in a variety of flavors and are available at nutrition stores and food co-ops, as well as online.

The New Mexico Department of Health is encouraging anyone who uses these supplements to report any sickness to them. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
