ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – One of New Mexico’s renowned cancer doctors has been invited to the White House.
Vice President Joe Biden has invited a delegation of six cancer experts to meet to discuss new national cancer initiatives.
Doctor Cheryl Willman is one of them. She is the director and CEO of the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Willman will provide updates on New Mexico cancer patterns, disparities and needs. She said the biggest question she thinks will be asked is, “How do you serve the people of the region that you live in to make sure all New Mexicans have access to these treatments, so that is one of our goals at the center for the next five years?”
Vice President Biden lost his son to brain cancer last year.
He’s working to increase funding for cancer research to accelerate cancer treatment.
