Santa Fe officer-involved shooting

SANTA FE (KRQE) – State Police are still on the scene investigating Wednesday night’s deadly officer-involved shooting in Santa Fe.

It happened at the Motel 6 on Cerrillos Road just before 9:00.

State Police are not saying much, but they did say the man shot was an armed robbery suspect. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to a Santa Fe Police spokesman this all started at the nearby Wal-Mart after reports of an armed robbery.

An officer with the Santa Fe Police Department who responded spotted a suspect who matched the description near the motel and at some point, he fired shots.

They say they aren’t ready to release any more information and haven’t said if the suspect was still armed when the shooting happened.

Police say they want to let State Police who are investigating the actual shooting to be able to do their work.

They do however confirm that only one of their officers was involved and he is on the standard paid leave required any time an officer discharges their weapon.
