Angel Fire Resort invites everyone to shovel race

ANGEL FIRE, N.M. (KRQE) – Angel Fire Resort is opening up registration for its World Championship Shovel Races. This year, anyone can compete in the annual event.

People from all over the country compete by sitting on the scoop of an aluminum snow shovel and race downhill at speeds topping 70 miles an hour.

Last year, KRQE News 13’s Gabrielle Burkhart took home the trophy.

The event takes place February 6.

The racing categories are as follows:

  • Little Scoops (ages 6-9)
  • Youth (ages 10-13)
  • Junior (ages 14-17)
  • Women in Media
  • Adult Women (ages 18+)
  • Adult Men (ages 18-44)
  • Master Men (ages 45+)
  • Pro Men
  • Pro Women
