ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – In a victory over San Jose State Saturday the University of New Mexico Lobos had 43 bench points. Sophomore guard Elijah Brown, once a starter, was responsible for 33 of those points. Brown has come off the bench the last two games. It all started when he missed curfew on a trip to Las Vegas. Head coach Craig Neal said he was going to discipline in house.
Since that time Brown has been coming off of the bench. When asked if the discipline was over for Brown Sunday Neal said he was and added, “There is accountablity and responsibility in our program and when I see fit that things have been taken care of things will change.” Neal did not elaborate on what else needed to happen.
Brown has accepted his situation but, looks forward to the day it all changes.
“Obviously it is something no one would like to go through,” said Brown. “I am used to starting but, I deserve what has come my way as far as what coach Neal has decided to do I support him. I just try to take advantage of every minute that I am on the floor.”
The Lobos are 4-2 in the Mountain West and Brown has been a big part of their success. The Lobos host Air Force Wednesday.
