Lobo Women defeat UNLV to end a two game losing skid

Lobo women outlast UNLV without Shumpert

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Lobo women’s basketball coach Yvonne Sanchez got her wish Wednesday night. Her team ended a two game losing skid with a 67 to 53 victory over Mountain West Conference rival UNLV.

The Lobos got 18 points and 9 rebounds from forward Khadijah Shumpert in the win. Lobos guard Cherise Beynon is from Las Vegas and dropped 13 points on her hometown team.

The Lobos only lead by five at halftime in a physical game that had it’s share of shoving. The win improved the Lobos to 2-2 in conference play.

“It’s kind of like a weight off our shoulders,” said Lobos guard Bryce Owens. “To get a win at home and then go back on the road is a very good confidence booster. I think it gets us more excited for more conference play.”

The 9-6 Lobos are at Wyoming Saturday.
