VALENCIA COUNTY (KRQE) – The two people charged with the murder of Rio Rancho Officer Gregg Benner were hoping to move their trials to a new venue on Tuesday.

Andrew Romero and Tabitha Littles stood before a judge in Sandoval County to ask for their trials to be moved. Lawyers say they can’t get a fair trial here because of non-stop news coverage.

On Tuesday, a judge ruled to have the trial for Andrew Romero in the murder of Officer Benner to be moved to Valencia County. Everything prior to the trial or anything that will be filed for the case will be in Sandoval County. However, the trial itself will be moved to Valencia County.

A decision has not been reached for Littles.

Police say Romero shot Officer Benner during a traffic stop last May. They say Littles, who was also in the car, knew Romero was going to shoot him but did nothing to stop him.

Last month, a judge decided to try the two separately.
