Snow will develop across the west through the morning hours Saturday. The Albuquerque metro area will see snow by around lunch time. Expect around 1″ – 4″ in the city before the canyon winds crank up later this evening and overnight.
Eastern New Mexico will see snow develop Saturday afternoon. It will continue through the day Sunday. The snow from the storm system, combined with wind from a back door cold front, will make for blizzard conditions across the east. Travel is not recommended for areas east of the central mountain chain through the weekend, as visibility will be greatly reduced as the roads become snow packed and icy. By the end of the weekend, parts of the east could very well have over a foot of snow on the ground.
The storm will exit Sunday night. In its wake, much colder air will persist across New Mexico well into the upcoming week.
