Chris’ Saturday Night Forecast

Heavy snow is now filling in over Eastern New Mexico with wind gusting over 40 even up to 60 mph!   With the wind cranking up and the snow coming down, travel will be very difficult if not impossible for areas along I-40 in the east and into southeastern New Mexico around Roswell, Carlsbad, etc.   If you don’t have to be out, it is best to just stay inside!   The snow will intensify in the eastern half of the state from now through early Sunday morning.  This is where 12″-20″ of snow could fall with wind gusts up to 65 mph making for white out conditions on Sunday.  Spot snow will continue in central New Mexico from Santa Fe through Albuquerque down into T or C and Las Cruces with isolated pockets of heavy snow.   Eastern New Mexico will be the major area of concern from tonight through Sunday night.   After the snow moves out, temperatures will be taking a dive!   Highs will be stuck in the 20s/30s with lows dipping to near or even below zero later this week!   Stay with KRQE for more winter weather updates throughout the weekend.
