SANTA FE (AP) – The head of statewide training for police officers in New Mexico will leave his post at the end of the month.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that Jack Jones will leave his position as director of the Santa Fe-based Law Enforcement Academy. Clovis City Manager Larry Fry said Monday that Jones has applied to lead the police department there.

The Department of Public Safety said in a statement that Jones did not give a reason for leaving the academy.

Jones has more than 30 years of military experience and worked as a New Mexico State Police officer for 10 years. He joined the academy as deputy director in January 2013 and was promoted him in June 2014.
