SANTA FE (KRQE) – An organization wants the state to stop approving new charter schools.

The League of Women Voters of New Mexico says small, privately run schools that operate with public funds are drawing too much money. The league says the money should be spent on public schools.

This idea has been tried in the past but it’s either been vetoed or stalled.

The Legislative Finance Committee is scheduled to hear a report on charter school spending in January.
