ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Tim Harris has officially given his final hug at Tim’s Place.
The restaurant is now closed, but not before hundreds of people filled the unique eatery to say goodbye.
“Let’s party,” said Tim.
That’s the kind of finale Tim wanted and that’s exactly what he got. A party of people came to celebrate the end of something special.
“This is the final day of my restaurant, the final operations,” said Tim.
Tim’s Place closed its doors for good Sunday.
“Its been a sad day,” said Tim.
The Northeast Albuquerque restaurant has been his home for the last five years. It’s also the only known restaurant owned and operated by a person with down syndrome.
“We’re proud of him,” said one customer.
“He’s going to be missed,” said an employee.
Tim’s reason for closing up his beloved shop is love.
“I’m giving up my place,” said Tim. “I have a girlfriend, Tiffany, and I love her.”
Tiffani and Tim met at the National Down Syndrome Congress Convention. They’re now moving to Denver to be close to her family.
“It’s a grand occasion though because Tim found love,” said an employee.
So on Sunday, Tim said goodbye in trademark style with his famous hugs.
“It’s sad to see him go, but he’s going to start a new chapter in his life,” said a customer.
And while it’s a new chapter with lots of changes, he promises one thing will stay the same.
“Of course, I’m still keeping my hugs with me,” said Tim.
And the final count in Albuquerque came to 75,402 hugs.
Tim said he already has plans to open up a new restaurant in Denver.
