ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The latest basketball installment of the Rio Grande Rivalry ends like the previous one, with a University of New Mexico victory. The Lobos outlasted their rival New Mexico State Wednesday night 71 to 69 at WisePies Arena AKA The Pit.
Lobos guard Elijah Brown had another solid night with 20 points, 6 assists and 8 rebounds. As a team the Lobos won the rebounding edge 40-28.
“A key to the whole game was are you going to win the battle of the boards,” said head coach Craig Neal. “I feel everyone got in there and got their fair share of rebounds and battled for them and I thought that was key.”
Lobos forward Tim Williams dropped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Cullen Neal had 13 points and 9 assists for the Lobos who improved to 7-2 with the win. Aggies forward Pascal Siakam led his team in scoring with 21.

“That’s a focal part of our team to definitely make sure a team doesn’t shoot from 3,” said Cullen Neal. The Lobos will host Rice Saturday.
