Albuquerque Police Department

ALBUQUERQUE (AP) – Albuquerque police say a stolen pickup truck ran a red light and collided with another vehicle, killing both drivers.

Office Tanner Tixier says a police officer heading in the opposite direction as the pickup saw it blow through a stop sign before the crash Thursday and then turned around conduct a traffic stop.

However, Tixier says the officer lost sight of the pickup as he turned around his vehicle and didn’t turn on his emergency lights before arriving at the accident scene.

Tixier says a gun and narcotics were found in the truck,

Neither driver was immediately identified.

Tixier says police asked the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department to help in the investigation because the officer had observed the truck and was in the area before the crash.
