ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque’s fist cooperage (barrel makers), D & R Cooperage & Grain has just started making barrels for New Mexico’s craft distillers and brewers. Their first customer was Boese Brother Brewing, who used their new oak barrels to create a special barrel-aged version of their Patriot Porter. The process used is rather unprecedented in the local brewery scene. There will be a special release party this Saturday at the Boese Brothers tasting room on 6th and Gold in Downtown Albuquerque.
As part of the tasting party, they are taking it a step further and using the excess wood from the barrel construction to smoke some chicken, which will go into a pulled bbq smoked chicken sandwich they’ll be serving exclusively at the brewery during the release party.
The partnerships they have built have garnered a lot of positive energy and feedback in the downtown corridor. These partnerships have helped businesses grow and succeed, and are a great representation of the positive sense of community downtown, which is sometimes overshadowed by the negative.
