ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – In eight months, Albuquerque’s Holly Holm and now-former champ Ronda Rousey might duke it out again in a re-match in Las Vegas. While Holm is ready to get back in the cage, Rousey is still licking her wounds.
“That’s the plan but she has to pass the medicals and make sure she’s healthy and all that stuff,” said Joe Rogan.
If Holm agrees to wait for Rousey to heal up, she can’t fight anyone until the re-match, leaving paychecks on the table until then. If Holm loses her title before then, that rematch loses its luster.
That’s why UFC commentator Joe Rogan thinks Holm will be rewarded with a huge payday for waiting for the rematch.
“Financially, the Holly Holm fight with Ronda is the biggest fight for Holly Holm,” said Rogan.
“Holly Holm is going to make like 7 million dollars for the Ronda Rousey fight. If I was Holly Holm, I mean, she doesn’t want to wait and she wants to stay active, and I totally understand that, but I think it should be her prerogative as to kind of choose, but financially that’s the smart fight for her.”
That’s a huge jump from the Rousey-Holm part, where Fox Sports estimates she took in a mere 330 grand for pulling off the upset that shocked the fight world.
UFC will be making a huge deal of the rematch. It’ll be part of UFC 200, held at Vegas’ sparkling new arena.
