Community donates to Carlsbad children who lost parents in car crash

CARLSBAD, N.M.(KRQE)- People in one New Mexico town are rallying together after two young children lost their parents in a car crash this weekend.

The lives of 6-year-old Raelynn and her 2-year-old brother Elijah were forever changed when their parents, Charity Hamilton and Ray Price, were killed in a car crash.

“The family is just kind of getting together around the kids, letting them know that they are going to be okay and we’re all gonna stand together. You know, try to take care of them the best that we can,” said family member Casandra Duncan.

The family says their loss is heartbreaking.

“Charity was a wonderful person, I mean the most caring person that you will ever meet, that is her,” said Duncan.

The kids have been staying with family since the crash and with tragedy striking so close to Christmas the community wanted to do something.

When Carlsbad resident Adrian Sanchez heard about the kids, he took to Facebook to ask his friends to donate food and toys to help give Elijah and Raelynn a more cheerful Christmas.

He asked for anyone who wanted to help to bring donations to his window tinting shop. In just one day, donations have been flooding in.

“They’re bringing some food, car seats. I’ve had two car seats dropped off yesterday. One lady came in and wanted to take the family grocery shopping, you know whatever they wanted to get,” said Sachez.

They say that the support from the community has been overwhelming.

“We’re so thankful and we’re really surprised how everybody kind of came together around us and helped everybody out,” said Duncan.

The parents crashed into a tree. Police are still trying to figure out what happened.
