Animal shelter workers pose for charity ‘Of Mutts and Men’ calendar

SANTA FE (KRQE) – They’re not models, but that didn’t stop a group of grown men from going all out in crazy costumes, posing for pages in a charity calendar.

Workers at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter created a comedic calendar to help raise money for their mission, saving animals’ lives.

Justin Irwin, an employee at the shelter, had the idea after he saw a similar project involving New York cab drivers.

“I was like aww man, that would be awesome if we could get some of the guys at the shelter to do this,” Irwin explained.

The men at the shelter were on board. They each chose a theme, and made a fun day of it.

The men are putting themselves out there in the calendar, now called, “Of Mutts and Men.”

“Some of us started working out in our offices, and some of us didn’t,” Irwin laughed.

“[The calendar] features a lot of men of sort of mediocre level attractiveness, but in really hilarious costumes with extremely attractive animals, and it raises money for a good cause,” the video put together by the shelter, explains.

All proceeds from calendar sales will go toward the Santa Fe Animal Shelter.

So, who cares if they look silly? The men throw out the idea of looking macho, by posing in ridiculous costumes and cuddling with kittens.

But there was some competition involved; the men were all vying for the calender’s cover page.

“I can’t imagine not making the cover, c’mon,” said the man dressed as a lumberjack, posing with a kitten.

In the end, it was the man who got the project going on the cover page. “I did lay down a lot of bribes, a lot of beers were bought,” Irwin laughed.

Ultimately, he and the guys involved in the project hope the faces of 2016 might spread and inspire people to adopt an animal.

“I want to see them everywhere,” said Irwin.

“People should be excited just for the sillyness and outrageousness of it,” the video explains. “No models, just regular people going out, having fun, trying to make some money for the shelter.”

People have already begun pre-ordering the calendars, which are on sale for $10 each (plus $2 shipping and handling if they have to mail it).
