Albuquerque volunteers spread holiday cheer

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A group of volunteers are on a mission to spread holiday cheer.

About a dozen people with the New Mexico Christmas Foundation pushed shopping carts, calculated prices and took down notes in hopes of finding the perfect Christmas gifts for those in need on Sunday.

“Just because the Christmas season is all about giving back,” said New Mexico Christmas Foundation President and Founder Jenny McFarlane.

The non profit organization helps New Mexicans in need during the holiday season.

“We fundraise all year long, so come Christmas time we can help needy families who may be having a hard time, down on their luck,” said McFarlane.

This year the group raised enough money to buy gifts for 45 struggling families.

The families put things like clothes and toys on their wish lists.

The volunteers spent hours at Walmart making sure they got everything the families wanted and needed.

“I wish I could help everybody out there who is in need,” said McFarlane.

The non profit is hosting a Christmas party for the families next Sunday.

The kids will get to meet Santa and have a holiday dinner. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
