ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Law enforcement across the metro have announced a new effort to combat road rage called “Operation Lilly.”
It’s named after four-year old Lilly Garcia. She was shot and killed in a road rage incident on I-40 in October. Lilly’s parents were at Friday’s announcement.
The operation started two weeks ago and since then there have been 416 traffic stops with 245 citations issued for various unsafe driving behaviors like cutting people off.
Officers and deputies are also handing out cards to motorists they pull over with tips on how to de-escalate conflicts between drivers.
