Study ranks New Mexico among most heavily-armed states


ALBUQUERQUE( KRQE) – Just days after another mass shooting, the controversial topic of gun laws is back at the forefront of conversation. According to the ATF’s National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and 2013 data from the U.S. Census Bureau, New Mexico is one of the most heavily-armed states in the country.

New Mexico is ranked fourth among 30 of the country’s most armed states. The data says that there are 84,471 registered firearms among the state’s 2,085,287 residents. That is 40.5 guns for every 1,000 people.
