ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Black Friday isn’t just a bonanza for stores and shoppers. It’s generally the busiest day of the year for plumbers too.

The employees at Albuquerque’s TLC Plumbing service center were all hands on deck on Friday sending crews out to call after call.

“We get pretty darn busy,” said TLC Drain Department Manager Sky Swanson.

The day after Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days of the year for area handymen.

“On a day after a holiday we are going to see a raise just because of the amount of people that are staying in the home,” said Swanson.

That combined with people tossing Thanksgiving leftovers down the drain can cause some major plumbing problems.

“The most common call is going to be a backed up kitchen sink,” said Swanson.

That’s where the TLC drain technicians come in. Their job is to respond to the hundreds of calls for service that come into the facility on Friday.

“I would expect that we will get another 100 calls today in association with improper use of the drains,” said Swanson.

Swanson said there is a way to keep the plumbers away during the holiday season; the most important thing is to plan ahead.

“If you’re planning on doing a lot of cooking inside of the house make sure you are doing maintenance to the kitchen line,” he said.

Clogged toilets are another issue plumbers deal with from all the Thanksgiving parties.

TLC also deals with a lot of heater problems because people had them on over drive with so much company over.
