ARTESIA, N.M. (KRQE) – Two people in Artesia are behind bars after a toddler in the home tested positive for meth.
The 2-year-old child’s father, Daryl Carson, and Melanie Villegas were arrested last month on suspicion of trafficking meth. When authorities tested a hair follicle from the child, it showed exposure to meth.
Authorities also removed 39 grams of white crystal meth, syringes, pipes, scales and guns from the home.
Carson is facing several charges including child abuse.
Villegas is also accused of assaulting officers when they were trying to arrest her.
